These airfried chickpeas are actually crispy and tasty. Not to mention they're vegan and healthy. This recipe is so easy to make and takes less than 45 minutes in whole.
Why you should give these crunchies a try?
1) High in protein and fiber
2) Packed with nutrients
3) Aids in digestion
4) Supports blood sugar control
5) Can help with weight loss due to high fiber content
6) Vegan
7) Very easy to make.
There's no reason to not make this at home by yourself. So shall we get started?
Ingredients required
- 2 bowls boiled chickpeas.
- 2 tbsp. olive oil or any oil of your choice
- salt to taste
- juice from a lemon
- chaat masala
- garlic herb seasoning
- paprika/red chilli powder
- cinnamon powder
- sugar
The first 3 ingredients are for the basic recipe. The rest call for the different variations. This is how the crunchies are made.
1. Tap dry the chickpeas with a clean cotton towel
I've learnt that this step helps the chickpeas turn out better by removing the excess water. The texture is a lot better when this step is followed. Don't go to harsh , soft tap is what we want .
2. Toss it up with the oil
Make sure to add the right amount of oil because when you add too much of it your chickpeas will turn really hard and will have an undesirable texture.
If you add too little of it your chickpeas will be really soft and that ain't good either.
3. Add salt to taste.
Don't add too much of it right now because we have different variations of these. We shall be adding more salt later if required.
4. Preheat the air fryer for 5 mins at 180.
You can also use an oven for this. Both give similar results.
I used Kenstar air fryer. It serves me pretty well. It's recommended if you don't own an air fryer yet. I'll provide the link below if you want to give it a look.
It was really worth the cost.
5. Pop the chickpeas into the air fryer.
Air fry the chickpeas for 25 minutes at 140 degrees.
Give it a stir in between when your 15 minutes done make sure it cooks evenly and doesn't burn because no one likes burnt food.
6. Bring it out when it's lightly browned and roasted
You will know when you hear the crisp sound and smell the roasted chickpea aroma that it's time to get the munchies out.
Next we'll add in our spices and give these munchies the perfect taste.
It is important to not add the spices in the beginning since there is a huge possibility that they'll burn.
7. Do the mixing job
Now we'll divide the chickpeas into 3 batches and mix the spices in each batch separately making 3 different variations of these.
1. Sweet cinnamon .
Mix a tsp. if cinnamon powder and a 2 or 3 tsp. of sugar.
You can use white or brown sugar, I used brown. You can also use cane sugar, maple syrup and honey (if you aren't a vegan)
2. lemony chaat
Mix the chickpeas with lemon juice and a tsp. of chaat masala.
I just love this Mathura chaat masala. It's so fresh and the tangy flavour is just so catchy. It already has salt added in it so we'll not add more.
It's just the best spice powder.
I'll have it linked below if you do not have it at home already.
3. Spicy garlic
Mix in a tsp. each of paprika powder and the garlic bread seasoning. We'll add some salt into this variation.
I use keya garlic bread seasoning. It is packed with flavours. I'll link it down below for those interested.
Now we'll air fry it for 5-7 mins more at 180 degrees.
Wasn't that so easy?
