How to choose the right eye shadow for your eye colour.

While choosing an eye shadow it is important to remember that the eye shadow you choose must have the tendency to enhance the colour of your eye. For this to happen, it is important to match the eyeshadow with your eye colour in a way that brings out contrast between the two.
Another important part is to understand the colours and the side your eye shadow falls under in the colour chart. Know the different hues your eyeshadow falls under and also the tones, namely warmer tones and the cooler ones.

The perfect eye shadow to go with your eyes.

1) GREEN EYES.

Use very minimal brown shades to bring out the vibrant greens.
Avoid using blue and it's shades since it tends to disrupt the greens in your eyes rather enhancing the same.

You can definitely rock the dark green eye shadow too since it creates a smoky look enhancing the overall look of the eye.
Use brown eyeliner and mascara which tend to do really well with this colour, green.

2)BLUE EYES.

Brown, earthy, bronze and orangish shades go so well with the blues in your eyes. Since these are warmer tones, they tend to do well with blue colored eye which happens to be on the cooler side.

For more excitement , you can experiment with pink, rose , gold and coral shades for achieving the goddess look.

3) LIGHT BROWN EYES.

Using gold or red shades will give your eyes a deeper look.
Where as using darker hues will leave your eyes looking sexier.

4) HAZEL EYES.

The same tips apply to the hazel eyes as well since these two colours, light brown and hazel are separated by a very small gap.
However, hazel eyes seem to fair pretty well with the blue eye shadow.

5) GREY EYES.

Very few of us are born with this coloured eye.
Any earthy shade will go well with grey eyes.

6) BLACK EYES.

Any eyeshadow would do great with dark eyes. Red, brown and shades, orange and gold shades. You can also rock blue and green eye shadows with black coloured eyes. Smoky grey does really well too.

7) BROWN EYES

Similar to black eyes, brown eyes go well with any eye shadow you could name.
However, it is important to note that while choosing brown shade, the right shade matters. Choose a shade of brown with a tinge of orange, gold or any other colour since plain brown might make the eye look more clumsy and less appealing.

Avoid making these mistakes:

  • Don't use the eye shadow which is of the same tone as your eye colour unless it's the exact same colour
  • Do use a primer in order to avoid the cracked look of the eye shadow.
  • Do not ignore the concealer.
  • Make sure you use the right brush for application.
  • Match the colour of the liner and the mascara in order to bring out the right shades of the eye.
  • Move your brush along the right direction as mentioned earlier.

Different eye shadows and their match:

WARM NUDES            -  ALL EYE COLOURS ESPECIALLY GREEN
COOL NUDES              -  ALL EYE COLOURS
SMOKY BLUE             -  BROWN AND BLACK EYES
BRONZE                       -  BLUE AND GREY EYES
SMOKY GREY             -  LIGHT BLUE AND BLACK EYES

ROSE GOLD                 -  GREEN AND GREY EYES
EMERALD                    -   ALL COLOURS ESPECIALLY GREEN EYE

Experiment with the colours and you'll know which one suits your eyes and face the best. Choosing the right eye shadow is like opening a box of cookies, you never know what you get . So experiment with your style.

  1. This is such a helpful post, thank you for explaining everything! I'm such a dummy when it comes to eyeshadow. I can't even do the basics that's why most of the time I don't put any eyeshadow on or just some kind of nude or brown all over the lid xx

  2. Thank you, this was really helpful! Whenever I've used eye shadow in the past it always made me seem older or just clownish. So getting the right tones for my eyes is definitely on my to-do list lol
